HUIDEKOPERSTRAAT IN AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
Architect: BiermanHenket│ Opdrachtgever: Aalberts Bouw│ Year of realization: 2019
All-electric and low energy consumption
The office building on the Huidekoperstraat in Amsterdam has been stripped down to the concrete frame, expanded with two floors and equipped with a new facade and new roof. The floor-to-ceiling windows will soon provide a 360-degree view of Amsterdam. The entrances have been given a double floor height and the stairwells have been renewed. A heat pump installation, a roof full of PV panels and extremely high insulation values make the office building extremely durable: all-electric and with very low energy consumption. This building meets the all-electric sustainability ambition of the municipality of Amsterdam before 2050. Part of the parking garage has been transformed into office space to improve the relationship with the street. An installation room and a bicycle shed have been realized in the parking garage. The new facades have a classic construction of a concrete plinth, a middle section of dark brickwork and a zinc cap.
Specially designed
On the Pieter Pauwstraat side, the facade of the parking garage consists of a specially designed metal façade with integrated planters. These gratings are made from our MD Formatura product in aluminum. The design was created in close collaboration with architect BiermanHenket. A rectangular figure has been chosen, so that a beautiful harmony is created between the metal façade parts and the vertical brickwork. The rectangle has been converted in different ways, creating a playful effect on the face of the office building on the Huidekoperstraat in Amsterdam. The panel dimensions of these façade parts are different and somewhat unique. Normally the standard size is a maximum of 1500 mm and in this case 1650 mm. This has to do with the capacity and standard dimensions of machine tools. The panels are finished in a special black coating and not a standard RAL color.
