Crafting History in Aluminium

Just a stone’s throw from the Oranjepark in Apeldoorn lies the restaurant Sizzles at the Park. The historic building is one of the oldest structures situated along the park. In collaboration with Studio Océan, Metadecor has created a striking aluminium partition wall here. Featuring a unique MD Formatura pattern, contemporary design has been beautifully interwoven with the building’s historic character.

A graceful pattern

The architect at Studio Océan drew inspiration for the wall’s design from the nearby Oranjepark. The pattern is based on the first 19th-century layout map of the parkland in Apeldoorn, with Oranjepark at its centre. The design reflects elements of the then-popular English landscape style, such as curved paths and an ornamental pond.

The individual elements of the pattern also serve as striking historical references. The restaurant is housed in the former Sociëteit van Apeldoorn (a local association), which has its origins in King William III’s civic guard. The king organised shooting competitions at Palace Het Loo. The shield-like shapes in the wall design echo the trophies engraved with the winners’ names and dates.

Tailored technology

While the main building of the restaurant already existed, the extension was newly constructed. To ensure a cohesive design and a flawless fit for the panels, the entire structure was scanned using point cloud technology. This provided a highly accurate and comprehensive visual of the real base of the structure.
The elegant pattern was pressed into the panels using MD Formatura (pattern DE 130). The aluminium surface was then anodised in a natural tone. The panels were seamlessly installed using our MD Resto system.
Producing and anodising the panels — each over five metres high — within a tight timeframe posed a real challenge, but Metadecor did it once again.

Light, colour and art

By playing with light and colour, a true work of art has been created—one that transforms with the time of day. During daylight, the pattern subtly emerges in a dark tint against a lighter background. As evening falls and the local lighting gently illuminates the design, it comes alive in a captivating, canvas-like presentation.
At Sizzles at the Park, you dine beside a setting that serves up stories from the past. It’s an experience that delights the senses while showcasing the power of craftsmanship and innovative design.
