Bommelwereld is a themed adventure park entirely inspired by the fantastical world of comic strip creator Marten Toonder, featuring iconic elements from the beloved stories of Olivier B. Bommel (Heer Bommel) and Tom Puss (Tom Poes). This unique destination brings nature, imagination, and nostalgia together in an enchanting setting for visitors of all ages. With only the castle situated on a mound, the large hall has been partially camouflaged to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

Van der Heijden Architects drew inspiration from Marten Toonder’s Dark Tree Forest (Donkere Bomen Bos), translating this atmosphere into a striking façade design featuring stylised tree silhouettes, executed in MD Designperforation. From different angles, the façade reveals a dynamic interplay of nature and fantasy—perfectly in tune with the spirit of the park.

A meandering roofline that follows the line of trees enhances this expressive design and brings a playful rhythm to the structure, allowing the building to merge naturally with its environment.

Metadecor’s contribution

Metadecor brought this distinctive vision to life by translating it into a sustainable, low-maintenance façade system. The façade was constructed using MD Designperforation mounted on an aluminium substructure, finished with a colourfast Durafol coating in RAL 6009 (fir green). Assembly took place entirely on-site, with logistics carefully coordinated using multiple cranes to ensure efficient installation.

Thanks to our integrated role in design, engineering, production, and assembly, we were able to take full ownership of the project from start to finish. By working with prefabricated components and applying smart process management, we significantly reduced construction time, minimised risks, and optimised execution.
